Getting out of Wix

Wix to Framer migration

Wix will not give your site back. There is no export, the layout is a set of fixed coordinates, and the mobile version is a second site you maintain by hand. All of it gets rebuilt in Framer — and the content, the URLs and the rankings come with you.

What actually has to happen

Wix does not break the way Webflow breaks. Six specific problems have to be solved, and every tile below runs the real one rather than describing it.

Fixed coordinates become a real layout

A classic Wix page is a set of absolute coordinates on a fixed canvas. Narrow the window and the content does not reflow — it simply leaves the screen. Framer rebuilds the same page as rules rather than positions, so it fits whatever it is opened on.

Two sites become one

Wix gives you a desktop layout and a separate mobile layout to hand-tune. Every change costs twice and the two drift apart. One responsive build with real breakpoints replaces both.

The slugs get rewritten

Wix names pages for you — copy-of-about-1, services-8, blank-2 — and those paths are what Google has indexed. Each one gets a readable replacement and a 301 so the old link keeps working.

There is no export button

Wix hands you nothing — no code, and on most plans no usable content dump either. The live site gets crawled and read page by page, and the text, images and collection items are rebuilt as a CMS with fields you chose.

The app stack gets sorted

Every Wix app is either native in Framer, replaceable with a better external service, or genuinely missing. You get that list before the quote, not after.

What the browser has to download

Wix renders the page in the browser, so a visitor waits on a runtime, a platform bundle and one script per installed app before anything appears. A rebuilt page serves real HTML first. The figures below are typical, not a promise.

What replaces each Wix feature

Turn a card over to see what takes over. Two things are native in Framer, two get rebuilt, one moves to a dedicated service, and one has no equivalent — which you should hear now rather than halfway through.

How the move runs

Step 01

Inventory

Every page, collection, app and form on the live Wix site gets listed by crawling it, because Wix will not hand you a manifest. That list is what the quote is built from, and you keep it either way.
Step 02

Content pull

Text, images and collection items are extracted page by page and rebuilt as a Framer CMS with fields you actually chose, instead of the schema Wix decided on.
Step 03

Rebuild

Design system first, then templates, then pages — one responsive build with real breakpoints, not a desktop layout plus a separate mobile site to maintain.
Step 04

Redirect map

Wix auto-slugs rarely survive a rebuild, so nearly every path needs a 301. The map is written and tested against the old URLs before anything goes live.
Step 05

Cutover

Staging is crawled and compared against the live Wix site, redirects go in, DNS switches, and Search Console is watched for the first 48 hours before the Wix plan is cancelled.

What it costs

The inventory always comes first, because on Wix nobody — including you — knows the real page count until the site is crawled. You get a fixed figure after that, not an hourly rate before it.

Small site

$2,200

and up · under 15 pages

A brochure site with no collections, or one simple one. Inventory, rebuild and redirect map included.

Site with a blog

$4,200

and up · collections and templates

Blog or case studies pulled across post by post, templates rebuilt, full redirect map and schema.

Frequently asked questions

Yes, but it is a rebuild rather than a transfer. Wix has no export, its layouts are sets of fixed coordinates rather than responsive rules, and the mobile version is a separate hand-tuned site. The pages are rebuilt in Framer and the content is pulled across page by page, then checked against the live site.

No. Wix gives you no code export, and on most plans no usable content export either. That is why the first step is an inventory taken by crawling the live site — every page, collection, form and app gets listed before anything is quoted.

Not if the redirect map is finished before launch. Wix auto-slugs like /copy-of-about-1 or /services-8 almost never survive a rebuild, so nearly every path needs a 301. Expect a dip for a week or two while Google recrawls, then recovery.

They become a Framer CMS collection with fields you choose, rather than the fixed post schema Wix imposes. Posts, images, categories and authors all come across, and the old /post/ URLs are redirected to the new ones.

Not directly — Framer has no built-in commerce. Products and checkout move to Shopify and Framer becomes the storefront in front of it. That is a separate project with its own scope, and I will say so before you commit rather than after.

Wix ships a large JavaScript runtime that renders the page in the browser, plus a bundle for every app you have installed. A typical Wix page downloads a few megabytes before it is usable. A rebuilt Framer page serves real HTML first and is usually a fraction of the weight.

Not always. If the site is a few pages, nobody edits it, and it is not costing you traffic, the money is better spent elsewhere. Move when the layout keeps breaking on phones, when the page speed is holding rankings back, or when you have outgrown what the editor will let you build.

Send me the Wix URL and I will tell you what it takes

One link is enough to crawl the page count, the collections and the apps you are running. You get the inventory, the honest gaps and a fixed number — and if the answer is that you should stay on Wix for now, you get that instead.
